Overview
Sociedad para el Desarrollo de las Comarcas Mineras, S.A. (SODECO) was set up on 13 October 1988 under Royal Decree 1108/1988, after an agreement between the Principado de Asturias, HUNOSA and the mining unions, to create alternative jobs in the central Asturian coalfields. Its main activity is financing business projects in ten municipalities through temporary minority stakes (5–45%, preferred shares, up to 10 years, with a buy-back promise from the promoters) and, mainly, participative loans. To 30 June 2026 it had formalised 108 projects with €487.1M of total investment, of which SODECO contributed €71.4M; at end-2024 its live portfolio was 18 companies with €9.1M invested. It also runs business incubators and in 2022 launched SODECO Crecimiento, a €2M seed-capital fund.
