Overview
Star Capital SGR S.p.A. is a Milan asset management company that has managed closed-end funds reserved to qualified investors since November 2002. Since May 2010 its capital has been wholly held by its management, who bought it from Efibanca and Palladio Finanziaria. It has raised four funds (Star Social Responsible Fund, Star Bridge Social Responsible Fund, Star III and Star IV Private Equity Fund) and made 28 investments in Italian industrial and service SMEs, plus 48 add-ons by portfolio companies.
Investment thesis
Majority buyouts and development capital in Italian SMEs with €15–50M revenue and €3–10M EBITDA, preferably niche leaders with significant export sales; low leverage and an industrial, hands-on approach over a 4–5 year horizon. Excludes start-ups, turnarounds, real estate and high technology. Minority stakes only as qualified holdings with shareholder agreements and a defined exit.
