WHAT IT IS

Government-backed Fund. Public money — a state or EU-backed vehicle investing on behalf of taxpayers, often with policy goals.

ABOUT

Saarländische Kapitalbeteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (KBG) is the Saarland's Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft, a non-profit self-help institution of the economy embedded in the business promotion of the Bund and the Land. For more than 50 years it has provided silent participations of EUR 30,000 to EUR 1m, usually for ten years and with a 70% guarantee from Bürgschaftsbank Saarland, to SMEs of all sectors in the Saarland for growth, start-ups, successions and innovation projects. Its shareholders are Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank, Landesbank Saar, the Saarländische Investitionskreditbank (SIKB), UniCredit and the Volksbanken-Beteiligungsgesellschaft; it is run from the SIKB building by managers from SIKB and Saar LB.

INVESTMENT THESIS

Sector-agnostic silent participations for small and mid-sized commercial companies in the Saarland: growth, rationalisation and structural change, start-ups, successions and innovation projects; no influence on management and, as a rule, no collateral.
