Overview
The Hasso Plattner Foundation is a Potsdam-based Stiftung des bürgerlichen Rechts that funds science and education (including the Hasso Plattner Institute), social and conservation work, and art and culture (including Museum Barberini and DAS MINSK). Its founder, SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner, gifted it a double-digit billion euro endowment, of which SAP remains the largest asset. A 20-person Investment Office in Potsdam invests the endowment globally, mainly through trusted external fund managers, and also makes select direct co-investments across public equities, leveraged buyouts, venture and growth capital, hedge funds and real assets. An advisory board of international investment professionals advises the Investment Office.
Investment thesis
Long-term, globally diversified endowment focused on owning great businesses and assets for high risk-adjusted returns, with two goals: sustainable distributions for the foundation's philanthropy and preservation of wealth; capital is mainly placed with trusted external fund managers who share the founder's entrepreneurial mindset, plus select direct co-investments.
