Overview

HUK-COBURG was founded on 3 September 1933 in Erfurt as a mutual liability fund for civil-servant drivers and is today one of Germany's ten largest insurance groups and its largest motor insurer, headed by the mutual HUK-COBURG Haftpflicht-Unterstützungs-Kasse kraftfahrender Beamter Deutschlands a.G. in Coburg. The group's investments rose to €43.35bn in 2025; its 2025 group report says holdings in affiliates and participations grew mainly because of the continued build-up of the alternative asset classes private equity and infrastructure, held through Luxembourg vehicles HC FCP-FIS Private Equity, Infrastructure and Debt. KfW Capital named HUK-Coburg among the institutional investors in the €1bn Wachstumsfonds Deutschland venture-capital fund of funds at its final closing in November 2023. The group also holds strategic stakes such as onpier, SDA SE and, since 2025, majorities in pitstop.de and all of Neodigital Autoversicherung.
