LVM was founded in 1896 by the Westphalian farmers' association as a mutual liability insurer for farmers and is today the LVM Landwirtschaftlicher Versicherungsverein Münster a.G., parent of LVM Lebensversicherungs-AG, LVM Krankenversicherungs-AG, LVM Pensionsfonds-AG and other group companies. Group investments were €23.82bn in 2025. The parent's 2025 solvency report shows holdings in private-equity and infrastructure funds, valued at net asset value, and contractually committed future payments of €663.2m from its private-equity participations (2024: €637.4m).
