Overview
The Stiftung Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft (EVZ) is a public-law foundation set up in 2000 with DM 10.1bn from German business and the federal government, most of which was paid to former forced labourers; DM 700M (€357.9M) was set aside to build an international grant-making foundation financed from investment returns. Its investments were about €640M at market value in late 2025. EVZ restructured its portfolio into a master fund in 2009, opened its allocation to real-estate funds in 2009 and infrastructure funds in 2013 (about 10% each), and subscribed its first private-debt vehicle at the end of 2024. It has decided against private equity for now.
Investment thesis
