Overview

The Versorgungswerk der Wirtschaftsprüfer und der vereidigten Buchprüfer im Lande Nordrhein-Westfalen (WPV) is a public-law pension scheme set up in 1993 for about 17,000 members and beneficiaries. It reports investments of about €5.9bn at book value, held mainly in special funds and other alternative investment funds (AIF) plus a bond direct holding and directly held real estate. In 2024 its long-time managing director said more than half of its assets were illiquid, including real estate, private equity and infrastructure, that the alternatives quota exceeded 25%, and that real-estate and alternative investments are bundled in two Luxembourg SCS fund-of-funds structures that invest with specialised target-fund managers. It was the first Versorgungswerk to set up its own asset-management subsidiary, WPV AAM (founded 2022, BaFin-licensed and operating since October 2023).
