Overview
Altaroc Partners is a Paris portfolio management company that builds private equity programmes for private clients, wealth managers, private banks and institutions. Its history goes back to Amboise Partners, created in 1972 by Maurice Tchenio, co-founder of Apax Partners; the firm was known as Apax Partners SA and then Amboise Partners before taking the Altaroc name. Since Frédéric Stolar joined in 2021 it has launched annual Odyssey vintages, each investing about 80% in five to seven buyout and growth funds of global managers and 20% in co-investments alongside them, plus the Horizon, Re-Up, Altalife and evergreen Discovery ranges. It reports €3bn advised and managed, €2bn raised and more than 7,500 clients.
Investment thesis
Each Odyssey vintage commits about 80% to five to seven funds of global buyout and growth managers with long track records and 20% to co-investments made only alongside those managers, focused on software/technology, healthcare, B2B digital services and consumer, split between Europe and North America; the Discovery range adds evergreen secondary private equity.
