Overview

HBL InvestmentPartners GmbH was founded in 2018 by Dr. Peter Hammermann, former head of Barclays Private Equity (now Equistone) in Germany, together with Jens Bender and Jörg Leussink, founders of the corporate finance boutique cf:M. It pools and invests the capital of successful German entrepreneurial families and says it is therefore not subject to typical fund restrictions such as holding periods. It takes majority stakes alongside management in successions, growth financings (no venture capital), spin-offs and selected complex situations, with up to EUR 20m equity per deal (up to EUR 50m in individual cases). Its first deal was TCT Technikcentrum Thale in July 2018, sold to Triton portfolio company EQOS Energie at the end of 2021.

Investment thesis

Sector-agnostic majority investments with operating management in DACH (especially German) small and mid-sized companies with strong market positions, stable business models and product leadership, backing MBOs/LBOs and buy-and-build growth, as a sparring partner without involvement in day-to-day business.
