Bem Comum - Sociedade de Capital de Risco, S.A. was set up on the initiative of ACEGE (Associação Cristã de Empresários e Gestores). Its shareholders are Caixa Geral de Depósitos, Montepio Geral - Associação Mutualista and José de Mello Capital (32% each), plus ACEGE and João Talone (2% each). It manages Fundo Bem Comum FCR, whose €1.5M capital was subscribed by Montepio Geral, José de Mello SGPS and Santander Pensões, to fund companies created by qualified professionals over 40 who were unemployed or pre-retired, and social-impact projects.

Investment thesis

Private equity used for a social purpose: fund and give technical support to companies with growth potential started by experienced professionals left out by unemployment or pre-retirement, and to social-impact projects run by non-profit organisations, aiming at sustainable job creation.
