Overview

CDTM Venture Capital is a venture fund backed exclusively by alumni of the Center for Digital Technology & Management (CDTM), the entrepreneurship programme run jointly by TUM and LMU in Munich. At its first closing in February 2025, 316 alumni committed €8.2 million, to be invested over about four years in roughly 60 early-stage startups that have at least one CDTM alumnus on the founding team. The fund is run by Franz Waltenberger with an alumni investment committee; three quarters of the carried interest is donated to the CDTM support association. A legal structure lets alumni invest from €2,000, and the fund says it has turned down money from institutional VC firms.

Investment thesis

Invests only in founding teams with at least one former CDTM student, at pre-seed and seed, either as initial financing or as a co-investment with VCs and business angels; average ticket about €100k.
