Business Angels Agentur Ruhr e.V. (BAAR) is a registered association in Essen and one of Germany's oldest business angel networks, founded in December 1999. At least two thirds of its members must be business angels; up to one third may be banks, VC firms and other intermediaries. Startups apply with a one-pager and pitch to members at the BAARforum and sector events such as the Venture.Med investor forum and the GreenAngelsLab.NRW; members then invest individually, and BAAR charges no commission on resulting deals. BAAR reports that its angels made 39 investments totalling EUR 1.585M in 2023 and provided about EUR 5M of equity to startups in recent years.

Innovative, high-growth startups with strong founding teams; open to founders from all of Germany and neighbouring countries, with a regional focus on the Ruhr area and dedicated forums for medicine/health and green (climate) startups.
