Overview

Brandenburg Kapital GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg (ILB) and describes itself as a public equity investment company. On behalf of the Brandenburg Ministry for Economics, Energy, Climate Protection and Europe it manages the Eigenkapitalfonds, currently about €100M funded from EFRE money and ILB own funds. It says it has backed more than 210 companies and, with co-investors, invested about €990M in Brandenburg companies since 1993. It leads start-up rounds with minority equity (up to €7.5M per company over several rounds) and gives established SMEs subordinated loans of €100k–€3M.

Investment thesis

Scalable, innovative growth companies based in (or moving to) Brandenburg in ICT, industry and life sciences/health care: equity for start-ups up to five years old and growth companies, and mezzanine subordinated loans for established SMEs.
