Overview
Breizh Up is a SAS created in September 2015 and wholly owned by the Région Bretagne, launched as a regional co-investment fund to finance the first fundraising rounds of innovative Breton start-ups alongside private investors (business angel networks, funds, banks). It started with €10M of capital (€8M from European funds), raised to €20M in 2019 and to €30M, of which the fund’s site attributes €26M to the European Union. It co-invests pari passu with private partners from €100k, as a minority investor in equity and quasi-equity. By November 2025 it had invested €21M in 37 companies alongside 51 co-investors. It is managed by UI Investissement, selected through an open tender; a Strategy Council chaired by a Region vice-president oversees it.
Investment thesis
Co-invest pari passu with private partners in young innovative Breton companies from their first round, with priority to the Region’s smart-specialisation sectors (maritime, food, health, digital, industry) and projects engaged in environmental and social transitions.
