WHAT IT IS

Private Equity Fund. A fund manager investing limited-partner capital into mature private companies.

ABOUT

Astorius was founded in 2012 to give private investors in Germany access to private equity after the AIFM Directive, and says it was among the first private equity providers registered with BaFin at the end of 2013. It runs fund-of-funds programmes (Astorius Capital Fonds, ACF) investing in hand-picked European and North American small and mid-cap buyout and growth funds, with up to 20% in direct co-investments, from a minimum of €200,000; since 2019 it has partnered with Twin Bridge Capital Partners (Chicago) for US access. Its clients are wealthy individuals, foundations, family offices and institutional and church investors, and partners and staff have invested €14M of their own money in the funds. The home page states €700M of fund-of-funds assets, 54 connected target funds and 900 co-investors.

INVESTMENT THESIS

Lower mid-market private equity offers the most attractive targets and value potential; Astorius selects specialist small and mid-cap managers through a multi-stage investment committee process and always co-invests alongside its clients.
