Overview
Halder is a Frankfurt private equity firm that takes majority stakes in DACH Mittelstand companies with revenues up to €100m, specialising in family and founder successions and management buy-outs in industrial, healthcare and food & beverage businesses. Halder was founded in 1988 by René Smits and Paul Deiters through a management buy-out of Oranje-Nassau's European risk capital activities; its German operations started in Frankfurt in 1991, it was acquired by GIMV in 2000, and the German team became independent through a management buyout from GIMV in 2013. Institutional investors — pension funds, insurers, funds of funds, family offices and asset managers from Europe, the Americas and Asia — have committed to its fund programmes since 1991, and by 2019 it had returned more than €1 billion to investors. Halder GmbH is a registered AIF manager under the KAGB.
