Overview

Hannover Finanz was founded in 1979 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the HDI insurance group and became independent through a management buy-out in 1993; it is now led by Goetz Hertz-Eichenrode, son of founding managing director Albrecht Hertz-Eichenrode. Its capital comes mainly from German institutional investors such as insurers, banks and professional pension schemes (Versorgungswerke), plus wealthy private investors. The group operates through HF Equity (majority and minority equity stakes, evergreen funds), HF Opportunities (special situations, since 2023) and HF Debt (private debt, since 2017), with offices in Hannover, Frankfurt and Vienna. Since inception it has completed more than 250 investments totalling over €2 billion, including Fielmann, Rossmann and AIXTRON.
