Overview
Luxcara was founded in Hamburg in 2009 by Alexandra von Bernstorff and Kathrin Oechtering; Marc Brehm and Philip Sander joined in 2011 and became managing partners, and the firm says it remains 100% independent and management-owned. It offers equity and debt investment opportunities in clean energy infrastructure to professional institutional investors through its FLAVEO fund series, with a long-term buy-build-operate approach, and says it was the first German asset manager allowing institutional investors to invest in renewable energy. It reports about EUR 8bn under management across around 7 GW in 12 European countries and more than 100 transactions, including the 750 MW+ Önusberget wind farm in Sweden, the Hamburg Green Hydrogen Hub, a 1.5 GW German North Sea offshore wind site (Waterkant) and the 520 MW Waltrop battery project.
Investment thesis
Risk-averse, long-term investment across the whole clean energy transition (onshore and offshore wind, solar PV, battery storage, green hydrogen, EV charging) in the European Economic Area, with ESG and impact as a core element, a focus on unsubsidised markets and private PPAs, and in-house expertise in technology, construction, operations, power markets and financing.
