Overview

Maxburg is an owner-managed Munich private equity firm, founded and run by partners who describe it as bootstrapped and 'founded by friends'. It reports more than EUR 1bn of capital commitments, more than 70 direct investments and over EUR 500m portfolio revenue, names the RAG-Stiftung as anchor investor, and says the team invests significant own capital in every fund and transaction. It takes majority and minority stakes of EUR 10-100m equity in companies with EUR 10-200m revenue in DACH and neighbouring regions, in successions, growth, buy-and-build, MBI/MBO and carve-outs, without a fixed resale horizon. Exits include zooplus, synvert (to Hitachi), STARFACE, Maltego, GfS, Bunny and autmatec (to HOCHTIEF, the first exit from Fund IV).

Investment thesis

Backs entrepreneurs and management teams in services, software & tech, consumer goods (B2B and B2C) and healthcare in DACH, in successions, growth, buy-and-build, MBI/MBO and carve-outs, with no fixed resale horizon thanks to a long-term anchor investor; value-oriented management with fast, committee-free decisions.
