Overview
PLAI is the startup accelerator of the Mondadori publishing group, launched in May 2024 with Startupbootcamp and I3P (Politecnico di Torino incubator) as core operating allies and a planned commitment of about €6m over 2024–2026. It selects and invests in Italian and international AI start-ups applicable to the group’s businesses: education, retail, new media and advertising, publishing and procurement/corporate functions. Early-stage start-ups in the 2025 batch received €100k for about 7% of the capital, with a possible €400k follow-on; under the year-round 2026 call a start-up can obtain up to €300k of equity investment across initial and follow-on rounds. Over its first two batches it received more than 1,000 applications and accelerated 16 start-ups; in 2026 it is also launching a venture builder to co-finance NewCos.
