Nichani Group of Companies was founded in Madras (Chennai) in the 1940s by Gopilal Nichani, first financing traders and merchants and from the early 1950s financing and distributing South Indian films. The family group holds medium- and short-term investments in listed and private companies across nine sectors, majority stakes in emerging businesses, and real estate in several Indian cities, and says it is co-promoting a $200 million real estate fund with Cordea Savills. In IT it built and sold Exinom Technologies to NEC Solutions America in 2003 and later formed Axeor Solutions; it has offices in Chennai, Bengaluru and Iselin, New Jersey, and runs a charitable trust set up in the 1960s.
