ABOUT

EDP Ventures is the venture capital arm of the EDP group, started in 2008, investing in early-stage tech startups in the energy space. It invests €1M–€10M from seed to Series B, always in minority positions, makes around 5–8 investments a year, and reports €150M of funds under management with investment teams in Lisbon, Madrid and São Paulo. Focus areas are renewables, grid, distributed energy resources, green hydrogen, storage and flexibility, mobility, energy-usage decarbonisation and AI & digital, typically testing technology through proofs of concept with EDP business units. In 2024 it told ECO it had invested €73M, held 40 active companies in 12 countries and made partial or full exits in 10 companies.
